Slate was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Clyde Slate two sons Donald Gray Slate and Clyde “C.J.” Slate three grandchildren a sister, Virginia Klutz two brothers, Wilford Shelton, Jr. Airy eleven grandchildren twelve great-grandchildren five great-great-grandchildren and a half-brother and sister-in-law, J. Airy a daughter-in-law, Gail Slate of Mt. Slate is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Ruth Byrd of Archdale, Barbara and Bill Wight of Mt. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
Slate was born on in Surry County to the late Wilford Shelton and Hussie Joyce Shelton Jackson. Airy, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning Septemat the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family.
